美国留学2024Fall申请季正在有条不紊地进行中，美国大学也已陆续公布新一年的申请政策及文书题目。
普林斯顿大学公布补充文书题目
我们都知道，除了在通用申请系统中提交主文书之外，每所学校还有单独的补充文书要求。
而普利斯顿又根据不同学位的申请者给出了不同要求，相比2022-2023学年，2023-2024学年的申请者新增了一道500字的补充文书题目。美国留学咨询

学术写作
普林斯顿大学非常看重学生的英语学术写作能力。所以除了补充文书的要求，普林斯顿大学都会有一个Graded Written Paper。
顾名思义，就是一篇由学生独立写作的，带有老师分数或者评级的，选自课内的课程作业或考试论文，但是必须符合学术写作要求的作文。
通过评价申请者们的Graded Written Paper，大学招生官们可以客观、准确地评估他们在学术领域的书面表达能力。
普林斯顿大学对这份论文做出了四个要求：
这篇文章一定是申请者在高中课内阶段写的，最好是英语课、社会科学课或历史课程的相关论文。
申请者可以提交课程论文、研究论文或考试论文，我们只对说明性写作感兴趣，而不是创造性写作。
1-2页的篇幅即可
该文书必须包括老师的评分和点评意见。

西北大学文书新变化
目前，西北大学官网上已经对新生申请的Common/Coalition Application主文书要求改为“Optional”可选了，申请者可自行选择是否提交。
我们可以看出，西北大学更在乎学生对补充文书的展示内容。这也比较符合大多数学校近年的招生策略，因为Commom APP主文书题目多年都没有太大的变化，申请学生（或机构）对主文书的写作套路都有比较深刻的研究，主文书并不能帮助招生官有效的筛选学生。
因此，西北大学的建议是：“如果在我们的补充问题中可能没有涵盖到您认为对于您的申请很重要的信息或特质，我们欢迎您在Common Application中提交个人陈述或额外信息，但这绝不是必需的。”
那么，CA的文书真的不重要了吗？申请者又该如何应对这种新变化？

就像大部分学校标化成绩也是“Optional”一样，越来越多的学生都是要提交的，主文书也是一样。况且，TOP20里目前只有这一所学校文书要求是“Optional”，如果你还申请其他学校，主文书是必须要写的。既然写了，就没有理由在申请西北大学时不提交，除非你主文书的素材已经用于补充文书。
但是这个细微的变化也很重要，提醒所有申请者：补充文书非常重要，很可能就是决定你是否录取的关键素材!
西北大学补充文书要求
既然西北大学主文书变成了可选，补充文书的重要性不言而喻。那补充文书是如何要求的呢？
2023-2024申请季，西北大学的补充文书分两部分：必答题和选答题。
必答题
所有通过Common App或Coalition系统申请的学生，必须回答下面这个问题，要求不超过300字或者更少。
We want to be sure we’re considering your application in the context of your personal experiences:What aspects of your background,your identity,or your school,community,and/or household settings have most shaped how you see yourself engaging in Northwestern’s community,be it academically,extracurricularly,culturally,politically,socially,or otherwise?
