SAT考试背了那么多却搞不定词汇?可能是方法不对

美国本科留学标化考试，在SAT阅读中有一类题目让很多同学都感到十分头疼，这就是——词！汇！题！不少同学都会有这种感觉：单词好像都认识，但做题就是选不对。SAT考试

为了解决这个问题，本篇文章总结了SAT词汇题的三点解题要点，帮助大家快速搞定词汇题。

1、结合上下文的逻辑关系进行分析，找出最切合语境的选项单词。

我们以2018年6月北美Passage 1文章中的一道词汇题为例。

这篇小说讲述的是Captain Frederick Wentworth和Anne相识相恋的故事。以下节选内容中提到的they指的即是Captain Frederick Wentworth和Anne两人。

They were gradually acquainted,and when acquainted,rapidly and deeply in love.It would be difficult to say which had seen highest perfection in the other,or which had been the happiest;she,in receiving his declarations and proposals,or he in having them accepted.

A short period of exquisite felicity followed,and but a short one.Troubles soon arose.……

题目

As used in line 17,“exquisite”most nearly means

A)intricate.

B)intense.

C)delicate.

D)elegant.

题目解析

题目中出现的exquisite这个词，在文章里面是用来形容Captain Frederick Wentworth和Anne之间的感情进展的。（A short period of exquisite felicity followed,and but a short one.）

从前文的描述我们可以分析出，两人的感情进展是，一开始慢慢认识，而当两人熟悉了之后，迅速陷入爱河，并且爱得深沉（rapidly and deeply in love）。所以文章中出现的exquisite需要和前文的rapidly and deeply in love相互对应。美国本科留学

在给出的四个选项中，A选项的意思是“错综复杂的”；B选项的意思是“强烈的，剧烈的”；C选项的意思是“精细的，精致的”；D选项的意思是“优美的，文雅的”。这几个选项里面，只有intense可以和rapidly and deeply in love相对应。所以这道题选B。

2、区分相似含义单词的不同用法，结合单词描述的对象，找出最佳选项。

我们以2017年10北美Passage 4文章中的一道词汇题为例。

这篇伟大文献双篇文涉及Abraham Lincoln就任美国总统期间，为废除奴隶制进行的相关工作。节选部分中的he即指的Abraham Lincoln。

In all his education and feeling he was an American of the Americans.He came into the Presidential chair upon one principle alone,namely,opposition to the extension of slavery.His arguments in furtherance of this policy had their motive and mainspring in this patriotic devotion to the interests of his own race.

题目

A)titles.

B)concerns.

C)attentions.

D)profits.

题目解析

题目中出现的interests是以复数形式出现的。当interest做可数名词的时候，它可以指“业余爱好”，也可以指“好处、益处”。结合原文，interests所在这句话想表达的意思是：Abraham Lincoln是出于他对自己种族（即白人）的利益考量，才去支持这个政策（即反对奴隶制的扩散）。所以interests在这里应该指的是利益、好处（a good result or an advantage for sb/sth）。

这道题应该选B。

B选项的concerns意思是“（对人、组织等）重要的事情”（something that is important to a person,an organization,etc.），和interests在原文中的语意最为接近。其它三个选项，A选项的titles意思是“名称，称号，职位”。C选项的attentions一般用作不可数名词。它作为可数名词出现的频率较低，意思是”厚待；殷勤“，一般用在比较正式的文体中。D选项的profits当其做可数名词的时候，表示的意思是”利润、盈利“。这几个选项的意思都不符合interests在原文中的含义。

题目

As used in line 15,“maintained”most nearly means

A)assisted.

B)protected.

C)tended.

D)repaired.

题目解析

题目中的maintained这个词修饰的是前面出现的a series of biodiverse grassland plots（含有多种生物的一系列草地），结合这一修饰对象，我们可以分析出maintain这个词在语境中表示的是”保养、维修、维护“的意思，即让某个东西保持在良好的状态中。

这道题应该选C选项。tend这个单词当它做不及物动词的时候，表示的意思是“倾向、趋向”，比如I tend to go to bed earlier during the winter.（我在冬天常睡得较早）。当它做及物动词的时候，它表示照料某人或者是照管某物。符合maintain在原文中的含义。

其它几个选项中，A选项表示“提供帮助、援助、支持”，一般的用法是assist sb with/in sth。B选项表示“保护”，尤其指的是使某个东西或者某人免受到损坏，攻击，偷盗或者是伤害。D选项表示“修理或者是修补（某个东西）“，比较常见的用法是repair a road/watch/shirt。

3、结合单词的常见用法、固定搭配来进行选择最合适的单词。

我们以2020年3月北美Passage 2文章中的一道词汇题为例。

Some of the evidence in favor of this view comes from behavioral experiments that show that how you respond to something depends on otherwise irrelevant features of the sensory stimulus.And of particular interest here,these seemingly irrelevant features often involve space.

题目

As used in line 17,“interest”most nearly means

A)sympathy.

B)importance.

C)responsibility.

D)attention.

题目解析

题目中的be interest是一个常见搭配，就等于interesting，指的是“引起关心或好奇心的性质”（quality that arouses concern or curiosity）。SAT阅读

而在四个选项中，只有B选项importance有be of importance的搭配用法，且符合interest在原文中的含义。be of importance就等于important，指的是“非常有价值的，值得人们关注的”（very serious and significant;of great value or concern）。

从以上题目我们可以发现，SAT阅读对于词汇的考查非常细致。所以大家在背SAT单词的时候，除了要能准确反应出它们的中文释义，也需要熟悉它的常见用法和固定搭配，这样才能攻破词汇题。
